Useful Information

   Shopping

What you can buy

What you can buy – designer labels, refined classic cuts, cutting-edge street wear and Harrods hampers all clamour for attention. London is the place to be for those who like shopping! Where you can buy – department stores along the world famous Oxford Street, boutiques and designer labels. as well as street markets and road vendors.

   Entertainment

Englands opportunities for entertainment by day and night go on and on and on. Attend a play, theatirical show or musical, go bar hopping or just watch the world go by in a streetside cafe, whatever your mood stricks you.

  Events

For the sporty, the traditional Oxford/Cambridge University Boat Race is held in London on the River Thames in late March/early April; the famous but gruelling Grand National steeplechase takes place at Aintree, Liverpool, on the first Saturday in April; the FA Cup soccer final takes place in May; the Lawn Tennis Championships , complete with strawberries and cream, and tantrums by major players, take place at Wimbledon in late June; in the same month the champagne-quaffing set head for the Henley Royal Regatta at Henley-on-Thames; and the Cowes Week yachting extravaganza pushes off on the Isle of Wight in late July/early August. Those uninterested in ball games and fast-moving animals should check out the Chelsea Flower Show at London’s Royal Hospital in May; the Trooping of the Colour pageantry on the Queen’s birthday in London in mid-June; the bacchanalian Glastonbury Festival music extravaganza which swamps Glastonbury’s paddocks in June; and the riotous (in the best possible sense) Caribbean carnival in London’s Notting Hill in late August.

   Places of Intrest

Museum lovers can visit the National Gallery, Sir John Soane’s Museum, the Tate Modern and White chapel Art Gallery . The Roman Baths Museum has a steaming soul and Richmond Castle has a great sense for the spooky. If you can stand the waiting line its get a glimpse of all of London by riding The London Eye. Also give Westminster Abbey a visit: the resting place of the royals. Not to be missed of course is Big Ben, the London Tower and a ride on a double decker red bus. Lake District is unsurpassed in its beauty and serenity.

   Sports and Leisure

If you feel like a paddle on the water, hire a boat for an hour or two and go boating on the Serpentine in Hyde Park and if you’re a cycling fan you can hire a bike practically anywhere in the city. Whatever your level of skill you can try the very English tradition of horse back riding.

   Out and About

Whether you like your culture high or low, your dance in pointed shoes or heels, your music in strings or sub bass, being sporty or watching others play, drinking cocktails in an elegant club or a bitter at a pub, London has it all.
